Post one - first thoughts

First day of blogging! The topic Early Libraries of New South Wales has many questions for me: what were people reading 200 years ago? What were the first collections, and who collected them? How were people learning, and were there educational libraries? Can i find information about how the Indigenous people who met the first Europeans learnt to speak English, and write, and read? And what about their learning tools?

And Ive been looking at blogs, to get the feel of them.

Melbourne writer Alison Croggon has a fabulous blog about contemporary theatre, and is a theatre reviewer for the Australian. She recently received the Geraldine Pascall Award for reviewers and critics.
The media release includes nice comments from the judges about her curation of a public conversation.
Her blogspot theatrenotes also comments on the award

Here's a crazy project: liquid books, a wiki that is an open editing thingy. High end, high culture. Interesting project.

So. the first port of call has to be the State Library of New South Wales. This page has nice dates and descriptions of buildings, but immediately begs the question: is The Library the building or its collection?
